"Musicircus at a (Social) Distance" is an hour-long online performance event that gives the audience a self-guided tour of works by two titans of American experimental music: John Cage and Pauline Oliveros. By simulcasting two live-streams, the University Percussion Ensemble holds true to the spirit of Cage's Musicircus tradition and allows viewers to focus on either, or both, of the video feeds at their leisure. The Musicircus will combine performances of several works by both composers, often given simultaneously, to create a cohesive hourlong listening and viewing experience. Pieces to be performed include Story, Suite for Toy Piano, Dream, In a Landscape, 4'33", and But What About the Noise of Crumpling Paper... by John Cage; All Fours for the Drum Bum, Rolling Meditation, The Earthworm Also Sings, and Sonic Meditations VIII, XX, XXI, and XXII by Pauline Oliveros; and Erasures for Solo Snare Drum and Percussion Meditations composed in the styles of Cage and Oliveros, respectively, by the students of UPE.
