View mapOctober is designated as Texas Archeology Month, a celebration of history and heritage through the lens of archeology. During this time, the Sam Houston Memorial Museum & Republic of Texas Presidential Library presents an exhibit on Texas archeological projects from across the state. Some of the projects highlighted in the exhibit include Pueblo culture sites, the La Belle, the Rubin Hancock Farmstead, and Henderson Yoakum's homesite from right here in Walker County. Stop by the museum’s Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center to learn more about Texas’ history from September 17 – November 3, 2024. Exhibit gallery hours are Tuesday - Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4:30 p.m.
