Deborah A. Harris is a Professor of Sociology at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Her research interests include the areas of social inequality, qualitative methods, and the sociology of food. She is the co-author (along with Patti Giuffre) of Taking the Heat: Women Chefs and Gender Inequality in the Professional Kitchen (2015), which combines analysis of food media and interviews with women chefs to examine barriers women face to success as chefs. She has been an invited speaker at several academic and professional conferences including the Women Chefs and Restaurateurs annual conference and FAB (Women in Food and Beverage). She also serves on the advisory board for the James Beard Foundation’s gender equality programming.
