SHSU 2023 Contemporary Music Festival

Each year, School of Music students and faculty gather to perform and celebrate new music, created by living composers from SHSU and the world. Each year we are joined by a distinguished composer-in-residence.

The SHSU Contemporary Festival is the oldest new music festival in Texas and will take place from Febrauary 13 to Febrauary 15. This festival is free, not ticketed, and open to the public.

Feb. 13 at 7:30 pm in Recital Hall: Ars Perpetua New Music Recital
Feb. 15 at 4:00 pm in School of Music Building, Room 201: Andy Akiho’s BeLoud, BeLoved, BeLonging: Music Inspired By Immigrant Detainees
Feb. 15 at 7:30 pm in Recital Hall: The Music of Andy Akiho: Featuring Andy Akiho, composer and steel pannist

The Recital Hall is located in the James and Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center at 815 17th St., Huntsville, Texas, 77340. The School of Music building is adjacent to the GPAC at 1751 Ave I.
