Saturday Historical Demonstration: Spinning
About this Event
Join us for a demonstration showcasing the art of traditional spinning. Watch as raw fiber is transformed into yarn using two historic tools: the drop spindle and the spinning wheel. The drop spindle, one of the oldest spinning tools, offers a glimpse into ancient textile techniques, while the spinning wheel demonstrates the evolution of speed and efficiency in yarn production. Visitors will learn about the differences between the two methods, the types of fibers used, and the cultural significance of spinning across time. See you at Bear Bend Cabin, located on the Sam Houston Museum grounds. In case of inclement weather, the demonstration will be in the museum store. Come and go type of event.
