SHSU Opera Presents:  Hansel & Gretel
In anticipation of the holiday season, SHSU Opera will present Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel on November 3-4, with a family matinee performance scheduled for November 5.  Composed in 1892, this full-length, fairy tale opera is based on a collection of German children’s songs and dances written by the composer’s sister in honor of Christmas.  Prior to the matinee performance, there will a reading of the “Hansel and Gretel” story, followed by a special craft project with the SHSU Sam Choral Educators organization.  All children who attend the opera will also have the opportunity to participate in a special part of the opera as well.  For more information, or to register your child for the Sunday afternoon children’s event, contact Rebecca Grimes @  Performances are scheduled in the Dance Theatre of the James and Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm on November 3-4, and at 3pm on November 5th.  For tickets and information, go to the GPAC Box Office website at or call (936) 294 2339.
