2021 SHSU Festival of Strings

Comprised of concerts and master classes with internationally recognized artists and music faculty, the Sam Houston State University School of Music kicks off the first performance of the annual SHSU Festival of Strings on Monday, October 4.  

Open to the public, the festival provides an opportunity for audience members to enjoy the talents of SHSU faculty, students, and prominent musicians visiting Huntsville for the special engagement.

The event schedule (all events except the Symphony Orchestra Concert on October 8 are not ticketed):

  • October 4: Kolonneh String Quartet in the Recital Hall at 7:30 pm (Livestream link:
  • October 5: Master class with guest artist, Norman Fischer, cello, in the Recital Hall at 4 pm
  • October 5: Guest artist recital with Norman Fischer, cello, and Jeanne Kierman Fischer, piano, in the Recital Hall at 7:30 pm (Livestream link:
  • October 7: Virtual master class with guest artist, Natalie Lin Douglas, violin, in the School of Music Building, Room 217 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm

The Recital Hall and Payne Concert Hall are both located in the James and Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center (815 17th St., Huntsville, Texas, 77341). The School of Music Building is located just behind the GPAC (1751 Ave I
